Turning a Waste Stream into a Value-Added Product

Client

Andersen Windows

Challenge

Andersen Windows saw an opportunity to raise the bar in the custom window replacement market, a huge market filled with "fly-by-night" window suppliers and installers.

During this time, Andersen also wanted to raise the bar on environmental practices, a saw an opportunity to channel waste streams of plastic and wood from their core operations into value-added products.

Solution

Using the waste streams as a base Aspen Research worked with Andersen to develop a new material technology called, Fibrex™. The combination of the strength of wood with the environmental durability of plastic resulted in a superior window product that far outperformed any competitor. Aspen carried the technology forward, helped build the mass customization approach to manufacturing, and together the two companies developed a completely custom window business that is now known as Renewal by Andersen™.
