Product Life Prediction of a New Color

Client

Andersen Windows

Challenge

Andersen Windows, in response to customer demand, desired to introduce an additional color option for its window and door products. Andersen, know for high quality, wanted to understand the long-term performance of this new color. The two major questions to address were:

  1. Will the new products perform to the established warranty periods?
  2. The window is made up of different materials, will all the parts have similar colorfastness?

Solution

Aspen followed a structured approach to validating the new product and developing new formulations and processes based on the performance results:

  1. Understand color measurements and performance information existing.
  2. Gather past failure information from other color offerings to extrapolate failure rates of new color.
  3. Analyze the molecular differences between the color formulations, the new Green and existing, to identify potential failure mechanisms or modes.
  4. Work with Andersen to formulate pigment packages for different materials in the parts to be assembled
  5. Accelerated UV exposure to assess and validate formulations
  6. Develop compounding processes for new formulations, to ensure color consistency and quality of materials
