Value Identification & Extraction of Intellectual AssetsClientCannot disclose due to confidentiality agreement. ChallengeA leading research and manufacturing company approached Aspen to review its portfolio of intellectual assets. The objective was to look for management cost reductions and untapped revenue streams. Although the client had a large number of intellectual assets, they did not have an efficient method for identifying and ranking market opportunities. Furthermore, they were struggling to define potential applications outside of the industries they served. SolutionAspen introduced the client to a method developed internally. It involved a rigorous process in which intellectual assets are catalogued and ranked according to licensing potential. Target users are identified and estimates made of the values each candidate might derive from use, providing a solid base for approaching outside prospects with good information and confidence for win-win negotiated results. Instead of looking at intellectual assets as a cost to develop and manage, the client now has a rigorous process to explore them as a revenue source. The client has internalized this process and now includes a strong revenue dimension in each cost-benefit analysis that guides whether to acquire/maintain intellectual assets. This has streamlined the client's investments in intellectual assets and resulted in new products, services and additional revenue. |
