ChallengeThe client developed a unique material with superior properties, but was running into several challenges manufacturing the product. The existing process produced scorched product with inferior physical properties, higher than desired "batch to batch" variations, high labor costs and had environmental issues needed to be resolved. In order to expand its market position, a leader in fluoroelastomer based compounds needed a unique material with superior properties. SolutionAspen brought to bear its experience in compounding complex mixtures using twin-screw extruders and gravimetric feeders. Through interaction with the customer, the team defined the process requirements and developed a manufacturing solution that achieved the desired results the customer was looking for. Through the work with Aspen, the client can now leverage a robust process for manufacturing its new compound. The process produces a more homogeneous and reproducible mixture in one third of the processing time, with lower labor costs and emissions . As a result, Aspen has enabled the customer to bring to market its new compound at a competitive price, supporting the client's mission to expand its leadership position. |
