Precision Plastic Part Manufacturer Seeks Better QualityClientCannot disclose due to confidentiality agreement. ChallengeThe client produces precision plastic parts that are the focal point of their customer's products. In order to produce the parts to meet their customer's needs a large number of parts are thrown away. How could the client improve their overall cost structure and margins? Not to mention protect their brand image in the market. SolutionAspen reviewed the client's processing information, the plastic used to make the parts, and samples of the finished pieces. Aspen identified the imperfections as being contributed to the material during the material compounding process. Aspen developed a process for addressing the root cause and proposed to toll manufacture the material for the client while tightly controlling the parameters contributing to the failure. The client now has an understanding of where the imperfections were coming from and peace of mind that their employees no longer had to deal with the issues associated with the poorly made material. While the price (per pound) of the material increased because they were essentially receiving material that was made specifically for them, their overall cost per part dropped. In addition, their reputation and relationship with their customer improved. |
